Principles of Interviewing
Interviews reveal as much about interviewers as they do about interviewees. This course explores communication skills to improve your performance from either side of the desk. Offered in Winter Session for the first time, Principles of Interviewing (04:192:360:01:99198) covers several interview types including employment, journalism, market research, therapeutic and legal, among others.
Students conduct and record interviews of family members, teachers or other interesting people for presentation to the class. Video clips of televised interviews are also discussed and critiqued by the class to enhance awareness of interviewing skills. "It’s a fun course with a focus on interaction. It provides a broad framework for communicating in an interview setting," noted Dr. Hui-Min Kuo, vice chair for undergraduate study for the School of Communication & Information.
This course is available to Communication, majors and non-majors.
