Please talk with your academic advisor or dean to assure that you have the appropriate preparation, referencing the prerequisites listed on the Rutgers Winter Session website ( If you have questions or need additional information about a Rutgers course, you may contact the sponsoring academic department (use the search website for departmental contact information).

Winter Session is NOT recommended for:

  • Rutgers first-year students or students with less than a 2.0 GPA. Such individuals must secure special permission from their deans/advisors before registering.
  • High school or younger students, due to the session's intensive format and course schedule conflicts with high school classes. However, in very exceptional circumstances, a gifted student who is being home-schooled may be considered for Winter Session. Please click here for application form, or contact the New Brunswick Office of Summer & Winter Sessions at for information.
  • Course overloads: A full-time academic load in Winter Session is a single course. Individuals who want to take more than one course in Winter Session must secure approval from their academic advisor or dean.
